Dr Elaine Storkey is a well-known Christian academic and broadcaster. A respected theologian and sociologist, she is often to be heard at conferences and on national radio, relating a Christian perspective to 21st Century living.  She is Vice President of the University of Gloucestershire and was Executive Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity.

She takes many opportunities to talk about Tearfund’s work in her speaking engagements, for example on the World Service, on Radio Four’s Thought for the Day and at Christian festivals. A prolific author, Elaine has written six books and hundreds of articles for newspapers and journals. She has been a columnist for The Independent for many years, and named as one of the 100 women public intellectuals by The Guardian.

In her role as President, Elaine has visited Tearfund projects in South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Mexico and most recently to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Elaine says: ‘I am utterly committed to the integrated Christian vision of Tearfund and extremely privileged to be its UK President. I believe the work we are called to do in relief, aid, trade and development is crucial in the service of God and our neighbour today.’
