Campaigns Promoter

Sending a campaign postcard.
Campaigning puts pressure on those with power, in governments or companies, to take action that benefits the world’s poorest communities. The more people who apply this pressure, the more impact for the campaign. It’s about building awareness, getting more individuals and groups involved and creating movements of people to call for change – that’s why Tearfund’s Campaigns Promoter volunteers helps to make Tearfund’s campaigning even more effective.

A multiplying effect

The Campaigns Promoter role gives Tearfund’s campaigners the opportunity to inform others of Tearfund’s campaigning activities and encourage them to get involved. They have a multiplying effect, extending the reach of Tearfund’s campaigning resources, making the calls for change louder.

A flexible role
The role has built-in flexibility so that it can be adapted to suit individual gifts and circumstances. As a Campaigns Promoter you could, for example, take the latest Act Fast postcard to local churches to get more people aware and involved. You could encourage others in your area to make use of the resources. You could set up a local Tearfund campaign group, or organise a campaign meeting in your region. On the other hand speaking could be your thing, so you may want to speak to others in your region about campaigning. The role is designed to adapt to your circumstances and skills; the key thing is that you give some time to getting others involved.

Supporting the role
Campaigns Promoters are supported in a number of ways. In addition to receiving Global Action and Act Fast, they will receive a pack around three times a year with materials to distribute. They also have the opportunity to get together with other Campaigns Promoters in their area. The local Area Volunteer Co-ordinator and/or Regional Manager are on hand to offer support and advice.
