I Count Week of Action

From 30 March to 5 April, hundreds of individuals and groups took action across the UK to demand a tougher Climate Change Bill as part of the I Count Week of Action.

Many campaigners met with their MPs during the week to ask them to publicly back two key changes needed to the Bill:

  1. Increase the 2050 emissions reduction target from 60%, to at least 80%
  2. Include the UK’s share from international aviation and shipping in emissions reduction targets

The week ensured our voices were heard but the Government still hasn’t adopted the amendments needed to ensure the UK plays its part in keeping global emissions below the two degrees critical point.

It would be great to hear your stories from the week. If you met your MP or got involved in an event then please email us with your stories and pictures to campaigning@tearfund.org. Check out pictures of events from the week on the climate week of action photo site.

Take action

We need to keep up the pressure on MPs as the Bill is expected to be debated in the Commons very soon.

Take action by writing to or meeting with your MP asking them to support the amendments needed to the Bill.

Please pray:
  • Pray for the remaining two amendments - for the inclusion of aviation and shipping emissions and for a commitment to 80% cuts by 2050.
  • Pray for the millions of people already affected by climate change, that they may have hope and the means to adapt to the changing climate.
