4 November: I Count rally, Trafalgar Square

Read the Tearfund press release

'We can change the world through bold international treaties and through small personal actions. Seas are filled both by mighty rivers and by drops of rain.' Rt Rev James Jones

On Saturday 4 November, some 25,000 individuals gathered in Trafalgar Square for I Count, the UK's largest ever public demonstration against climate change. Hundreds of Tearfund supporters made their voices heard, reminding our government that climate change hits the poorest hardest.

Below are some photos and quotes from this momentous day.

And if you were there - we'd  love to hear your feedback. Please email campaigning@tearfund.org with your thoughts and opinions.

Richard Clarke, 25, researcher

'I wanted to make a difference, to be part of many voices and to let politicians know that young people – and particularly Christians – care about the environment and that we really want to see changes in our generation and in future generations.

'God cares about the earth, he saw the earth and thought that it was good and he wants everyone to enjoy the earth, to live in harmony with him. I care about people who don’t enjoy this relationship with him now, who don’t enjoy the blessings of the earth that he’s created.

'I’ve started cycling this last year, which I never did before, take public transport when I can. It’s only a start, but if everyone makes a start, then that’s the message.'

Anne Sutton, 67, retired teacher from Northamptonshire

'I feel very strongly about climate change and what we’re doing to the world and I support Tearfund. I’m a Christian and I try to get my church going on it. I’m so pleased to see so many people here, it’s marvellous and the strength is very good.

'I worry quite a lot that about one third of the world is using perhaps nine tenths of its resources, and they’ve got so much they don’t know what to do with it. And then we’re leaving the other three quarters of the world with less than they should have and I feel very strongly about that.

'We’ve tried to cut down on electricity at home, switching things off, we’ve gone from two cars to one, trying to walk instead of going in the car if we can.'

We are Christians passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.
