G20:Act Justly - Put People First

On Saturday 28th March 2009 more than 35,000 people took to the streets to call on world leaders to put people first as they gather in London for the G20 meeting taking place on April 2nd 2009.

Hundreds of Tearfund supporters were there, lending their voices (and feet and banner-waving arms) to the church's urgent call to put poor people and the environment at the heart of the global economic system.

Ben Niblett, Tearfund Campaigns Team Leader said he was 'Thrilled with the turnout at the rally and the diversity of the groups taking part. This deeply moving service combined with such a large demonstration asent a powerful signal. Thank-you to everyone who took part and who prayed'.

What next?

The Put People First church service, march and rally were great events but it doesn't end here. Here are just a few things that you can do to continue to play your part in the church's fight against injustice:

Give thanks for the service and rally, and pray:

  • for wisdom and courage for world leaders to move beyond narrow self interest and old ideas and respond together to this crisis
  • that the voices of poor and vulnerable people would be heard and listened to, and the church will continue to speak out on their behalf
