Campaigners enjoy the sunshine before the Blow the whistle worship service

On Saturday 2 June 2007, several thousand campaigners gathered by the banks of the Thames in central London to send a message to the world's G8 leaders ahead of their meeting in Germany on 6-8 June.

With more than 580,000 actions taken by supporters across the UK, our message to the G8 leaders was clear: the world can't wait, keep the promises you've made to tackle poverty!

The Blow the whistle service was organised by Micah Challenge UK in conjunction with agencies like Tearfund, World Vision and the Evangelical Alliance. People came from across the UK - showing that Christians care about poverty issues.

Beth Harris (19) and Marvin Morrings (32), students at London School of Theology)

Beth Harris: 'As Christians we are called to love our neighbour. It cannot be loving and it cannot be just that we have all the wealth when so many have nothing. By coming as one person today I can be part of making a difference.’

Marvin Morrings: 'It's about justice at the end of the day - what you wish for yourself, you should wish for your neighbour. I’ve seen the extreme poverty in my country, how can I not stand up and be counted on such a day as this?'

Rose Hunt (centre) and her family, from Pontypridd in Wales

Rose Hunt: 'When you read the Old Testament it's hard not to be concerned about the poor. I hope by coming today that this will put the Millenium Development Goals high up on the G8 agenda and show them that people actually care about poor communities.'

We are Christians passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.
So our ten-year vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
