Tell Peter Mandelson he doesn't act in your name

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is fast approaching its deadline to agree a world trade deal. Yet the current agenda being pursued by rich countries in the Doha 'Development Round' of talks will increase poverty, job losses and environmental destruction across the world.

Some 750,000 people in the UK alone voted for trade justice during Make Poverty History, adding their voice to millions of people across the world calling for a fair outcome for developing countries and the environment at the WTO talks.

As Christians we are both committed and commissioned to speak out when the rights of those who are poor and oppressed are being abused. The current WTO agenda will do just that, so we need to act to ensure our voices are heard.

What can you do?

The EU Trade Commissioner, Peter Mandelson, is pursuing an anti-development agenda at the WTO pushing developing countries to open up their industrial and services markets, while refusing to make the necessary changes to stop the damage caused by Europe’s own agricultural subsidies regime.

We need to make it known that Peter Mandelson does not represent us in pursuing this agenda any further. He does not act in our name.

If you've already taken action, thank you. Peter Mandelson has responded to your letters. Click here to read his letter and here to read our response.

Please continue to pray for :

  • Peter Mandelson to have a change of heart and place the  needs of poor people at the top of his agenda.
  • A fair WTO outcome which means poor countries are not forced to open their markets and jobs can be saved.
  • For those suffering in poor countries as a result of the injustices surrounding trade.

We are Christians passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.
So our ten-year vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
