Why do we campaign?

'Speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute' Proverbs 31:8

Today 1600 babies will be born with HIV, 300 million Africans will drink dirty water, millions won't have enough food as a changing climate has devastated their harvest and poor countries will miss out on £1.3 billion through unfair trade rules.

'A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away.' Proverbs 13:23

By campaigning we can obey the Biblical mandate to speak up for those living in poverty. Whether it's sending a postcard to the prime minister, attending a rally or praying for those in power, God is calling each of us to stand up against injustice.

'Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!' Amos 5:23-24

Tearfund campaign as part of Micah Challenge UK, a global movement of Christians speaking out against the injustice of poverty.

What can one person do? Esther - a woman, an orphan and an alien, found herself in a unique position. What parallels can we draw as we seek to be advocates in the 21st century?

Seeking God's intervention and guidance is a vital part of any campaign. Have a look at our prayer resources and visit the main Tearfund prayer zone.

We are Christians passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.
So our ten-year vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
