Colombia's civil conflict has spanned four decades and costs thousands of lives each year. Human rights abuses are rife, massacres and kidnappings commonplace. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and land. The country is highly polarised with the vast majority of poor Colombians separated from traditionally rich families (of mainly Spanish descent).
Tearfund partners are currently helping displaced people in the northern area of Montes de Maria, an area of high conflict between guerrillas and paramilitaries. Colombia, along with Cambodia, is also a main focus for the Children at risk programme.
Evangelical church leaders in Colombia have pledged to redouble their efforts to help bring an end to the country’s long running and brutal conflict. More information about this can be found on the news section of our website.
