Since independence in 1956, Sudan has been dogged by civil war. Two million people have died from starvation, disease or violence since 1983; more than the combined casualties of the last decade's conflicts in Bosnia, Chechnya, Somalia and Rwanda. An estimated 4 million Sudanese are displaced, either internally or as refugees.
Tearfund’s prayerful action initiative encouraged supporters to pray and campaign for a just and lasting peace in Sudan. Tearfund is also supporting local partner agencies, as well as helping displaced people and those suffering from war, famine and poverty. Tearfund's disaster team is meeting emergency needs in areas devastated by the conflict.
