Disaster mitigation

Floods, droughts and earthquakes are on the increase. When disasters strike, it is poor communities who feel the impact most. They can push a community which is already on the brink over the edge.

But communities can reduce the amount of havoc wreaked by a disaster if they are well prepared.

Tearfund is committed to bringing about a reduction in the level of suffering from natural and man-made disasters through a strategy that combines changes at the community level with changes to national and international policies and practice.
