Recruitment for DMI 2009 is likely to commence during the summer of 2008.
Do you have:
- A desire to start an exciting new career in relief work?
- Proven professional work experience specifically in people and project management?
- Transferable professional skills which can be used dynamically in a disaster management field context?
- Proven leadership ability and some overseas experience?
Are you:
- A spiritually mature evangelical Christian?
- Available for ALL selection and departure dates (see below)?
Did you answer ‘yes’ to ALL of the questions above? If so, Tearfund’s DMI could be for you…
What would the internship mean for me?
Many people who are looking for a career in relief work find it difficult to gain the initial training and work experience that is needed to kick-start their career. We are confident that the six-month Tearfund DMI will provide you with a solid foundation from which to build a future career in the relief sector.
What does the internship involve?
After two weeks of briefing in the UK, you will undertake a six-month placement overseas in one of our field sites. As a Disaster Management Team (DMT) member, you will learn the role of an Area Coordinator. This will involve exposure to a challenging environment and learning the operating practices, structures, systems, projects and standards of the relief sector. You will have supervised responsibility in tasks around key management learning objectives: programme strategy and policy, project management, finance, personnel, good practice and institutional learning, representation, programme, logistics and technical support.
Who should apply?
Applicants must be strong, flexible team players and be committed to Tearfund's evangelical Christian beliefs. Please take a look at the internship job scope and person specification; if you feel that your skills and experience match the criteria that we are looking for then we would welcome your application. Due to the nature of the Internship Programme and DMT assignments, we would ask married applicants to carefully consider the impact of unaccompanied relief assignments on marriages/family life. As the internship involves potential contact with children the recruitment process will include specific checks related to child protection issues.
Will I be paid?
Interns will receive a living allowance of £200 per month plus a benefits package (see the summary of benefits for further details).
How do I apply?
If you feel that your skills and experiences match the person specification, please download and complete the application form and return it with your CV to internationaljobs@tearfund.org before midnight on the closing date. Late entries cannot be considered.
If you have been shortlisted, you will be sent an email within one week of the closing date inviting you to attend the selection days. If you have not received any correspondence from Tearfund by this date, please assume that you have not been shortlisted. Please note that priority will be given to those who are able to attend all parts of the selection process. All applicants are responsible for their own travel costs to selection days at Tearfund’s Teddington office.
