G8 Edinburgh rally: a day to change the world

What a day! An estimated 225,000 people from the UK and across the world gathered in Scotland's capital, to put pressure on the G8 leaders to make decisions which will benefit the world's poorest people.

With so many people marching in Edinburgh, and with live links to the Live 8 concerts, it was a day nobody will forget. See below for reports, photos and videos from those in Edinburgh making history on Saturday 2 July.

‘We had to be here. It’s the first time we’ve taken the children out of school, as it’s such a momentous occasion.’ Campaigner and mother-of-three Heidi was just one of the 225,000 people in Edinburgh covered head-to-toe in the messages of Make Poverty History.

Photo: Peter CatonExceeding all expectations, 225,000 people turned out to walk for justice in Edinburgh. The marching crowds circled the historic city centre, forming a huge white human band, splashed with colourful banners.
They came from all over the world – and from Edinburgh itself, by bike, by bus, at a run. Tearfund staff and volunteers, first-timers and seasoned campaigners joined together to add their voices to Make Poverty History.
We've compiled a few video clips from the Edinburgh rally, to give you a flavour of the atmosphere.
Tearfund celebrity-spotter Jo Hill spoke to those lending their support to the Make Poverty History campaign in Edinburgh.

We are Christians passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.
So our ten-year vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
