Bangladesh partner wins human rights award

A church leader who works with Tearfund in Bangladesh has won a human rights accolade.

Dennis Datta has been awarded the Baptist World Alliance Denton and Janice Lotz Human Rights Award.

The 65-year-old has been recognised for his advocacy of the country’s independence, the restoration of democracy, and the establishment of religious freedom.

The award is given `for significant and effective activities to secure, protect, restore or preserve human rights as they are stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’.

Mr Datta leads Tearfund partner Koinonia which is involved in two primary education programmes and dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Sidr.
