In November 2005, a coalition of church and para-church organisations was initiated and was given the name Zimbabwe Christian Alliance (ZCA).
The organisation was officially launched on the 3rd of February 2006. The alliance cuts across all denominations and its primary focus is on resolving the crisis in Zimbabwe by bringing about social transformation through prophetic action. The goal of the ZCA is to be a prophetic voice on issues of justice and peace that will catalyze social transformation.
To this end the ZCA are undertaking a range of activities at both national and regional levels:
- They have facilitated the Save Zimbabwe Campaign which is a forum for civil society, churches and political formations to collaborate on solutions for the multitude of challenges facing Zimbabwe.
- They have held prayer rallies to pray for the situation and to raise awareness of the issues.
- They are working with church leaders in the Southern Africa region to mobilise support and solidarity for the people of Zimbabwe.
- Information is being disseminated to people in rural areas which is vital to counteract the government’s control of media messages.
- Representatives have had input to the SADC talks facilitated by South Africa between the ruling party and opposition groups.
- Training in advocacy for local churches is being carried out to enable the local church to address issues within their own communities.
The ZCA are not a political party, nor do they have a political affiliation as an organisation. They call for good and accountable governance by all leadership regardless of their political allegiance.
