Live to the max

Dr Ehab El Kharratt helps drug addicts to beat their addiction.

‘If only’
‘But what about…?’
‘Maybe when or after I….’

How often do we pull these phrases out of the bag to prevent ourselves from fulfilling the ideas boomeranging around our head?

Life would be so much easier if God guided us using a megaphone or delivered telegrams via stork. But, even when God parted the Red Sea and sent manna from heaven, it didn’t seem to work any better for the Israelites…

So, instead of wondering why God calls everyone else, but goes quiet on you, ask yourself, what evokes a righteous sense of injustice? What are you good at doing for others? What needs on your doorstep are you able to impact?

Maybe it’s in this that the will of God can unfold.

The prompting of God can lead people into caring for those who are suffering: In Zambia, EFZ volunteer Mrs Mutala prays with three women, whose children have died.

Six months on from the Asian tsunami, ordinary people working with Tearfund partners continue to show daily compassion to those who have suffered.

Egyptian doctor Ehab El Kharratt uses his medical gifts to help drug addicts reach freedom from addiction.

Lillia in Colombia speaks out for those who describe themselves as having to live as if ‘deaf, dumb and blind’ in Bogota’s most dangerous areas – and receives death threats for doing so.

All these people use their interests, passions and skills, but there’s nothing unusual about them other than the fact that they have spent time investigating what the will of God is for their lives. Lillia still enjoys salsa, going out on a Friday and nice furniture.

If you’re poised on the starting blocks, but uncertain about which way to run, who ever said there was anything wrong with a few detours?

So, shake off any paralysis, don’t court disappointment or doubt and count your failures as stepping stones for the future.
