Typhoon Ketsana grabbed the headlines for the devastation it brought to the Philippines but parts of Cambodia are also still clearing up after feeling its destructive force.
Six provinces were affected by flooding sparked by the storm, more than 20 people died as a result and tens of thousands were affected by the damage it caused.
Hundreds of homes and thousands of acres of paddy fields were destroyed, prompting Tearfund partner Samaritan’s Purse to launch an emergency aid response targeting 720 families in eight villages in Kampong Thom province.
Food, including rice and noodles, and items such as mosquito nets, blankets, soap, water filters, plastic sheets and oral rehydration packs are being distributed to the most vulnerable, including pregnant women, children and elderly people.
Samaritan’s Purse, which works closely with local churches, has considerable experience operating in Cambodia, running projects ranging from health and nutrition to water and sanitation.
• Please pray for ongoing relief efforts to reach those still in need after the typhoon.
• Pray for swift reconstruction efforts to build new homes and pray that there is no long-term hunger as a result of flooded rice fields.
• Ask the Lord to bless the work of Samaritan’s Purse and other Tearfund partners responding to the disasters that have affected South-East Asia in recent weeks.
