5 October 2009
Nearly 300 people were killed when Typhoon Ketsana struck the Philippines and forced many thousands to flee their homes.
As well as roads, bridges ad buildings, the storm badly damaged the country’s vital rice crop.
This typhoon has been followed up by others, notably Typhoon Parma, the strongest to hit the islands since 2006.
That killed more than 20 people are forced more than 60,000 Filipinos into temporary shelters.
- Please pray that the basic needs of those affected are met – food, safe drinking water, shelter and clothes.
- Pray for an organised response by the country’s government and private sector. Pray for local churches as they help too.
- Pray for the health, strength and wisdom of staff working for Tearfund’s partner as they respond.
- Pray that the country would be spared further typhoons and that flooding will subside quickly.
