A new outbreak of religious violence in central Nigeria has led to the killing of more than 200 people and a dusk-to-dawn curfew being imposed.
The trouble has centred on the city of Jos where churches and buildings belonging to Christians were reportedly set alight by Muslim youths.
It’s unclear what triggered the attacks, which included one on a Catholic church during last Sunday’s service.
Police temporarily regained control, however on Tuesday morning shooting was heard with the movement of armed groups coming from the northern part of the city.
The area has seen rising religious tension since November 2008 when 400 people died in clashes between Muslims and Christians over a disputed election result.
• Please pray for an end to the violence and for relations between the Muslim and Christian communities to stabilise.
• Pray for leaders from the respective communities to show wisdom at this time.
