Campaigns Promoter

Campaigns Promoters inform others of Tearfund’s campaigning activities and encourage them to get involved. This will have a multiplying effect, extending the reach of Tearfund’s campaigning resources. It’s a flexible role that can be adapted to suit individual gifts and circumstances. Campaigns Promoters are part of a wider team of thousands of local volunteers across the UK and Ireland, who together are furthering the purpose and mission of Tearfund.

You can choose to get involved in one or more of the following activities:

(in local churches)

  • Use campaigning material from Tearfund’s resource packs and our quarterly globalaction magazine. You might like to organise a church service focusing on a campaign issue, set up a campaign group in a church, ask members of the congregation to sign postcards, etc. These activities could be done in your own church and/or others.
  • Encourage and resource others in your area to do the same.

(in groups)

  • Organise a local Tearfund campaigning group and/or encourage existing local groups (eg, Tearfund prayer or volunteer groups and area campaigning groups) to participate in Tearfund campaigns.

(in regional meetings)

  • Work with other Tearfund volunteers and/or your Regional Manager to organise meetings that will encourage other campaigners and move campaigns forward.
  • Work with your Regional Manager to explain more about campaigning to others who may be interested.

How much time will I need to give?

The amount of time you give will vary from month to month and can be as little or as much as you like. Should you wish to join (or start) a campaign group in your area you may also want to give time to group meetings and activities. We’d like you to take on this assignment for three years to start with.

What do I need to do the role?

  • A commitment to Tearfund’s Basis of Faith, mission and values
  • Enthusiasm for justice and campaigning
  • A willingness to encourage others to get involved
  • Access to email and the Internet would be extremely useful

How will you support me?

We will send you the globalaction magazine four times a year and regular email updates. If there are other Campaigns Promoters in your area you will have the opportunity to get in touch with them. You can also contact your Area Volunteer Co-ordinator or your Regional Manager for support and advice. Tearfund’s Prayer and Campaigns team are available to answer any questions you may have. We’ll give you an orientation pack and there are zones on the Tearfund website devoted to volunteers and campaigning.

How will I benefit?

  • You’ll have the satisfaction of making a vital difference to people living in poverty around the world
  • You’ll become part of the worldwide Tearfund family
  • You’ll be the first to know about new Tearfund resources and information
