Church Representative Co-ordinator

The New Testament calls upon the church to be a caring, inclusive and distinctive community – reaching out in love to the world. Tearfund’s aim is to serve Jesus Christ by enabling those who share evangelical Christian beliefs to bring good news to poor people.

What will I do?

Tearfund Church Representatives work within their own churches to provide resources and information about Tearfund. As a Church Representative Co-ordinator you will look after an agreed number of these volunteers and will talk with them regularly (by phone, email or face-to-face) to find out how they are getting on. You can celebrate their successes and help resolve any difficulties. We'd like you to organise occasional team meetings so that Representatives can encourage one another, share ideas and develop a sense of unity.

You can also contribute to the growth of the volunteer programme by trying to recruit a Tearfund Church Representative for every church in your area. You'll be involved in the orientation and support of these new volunteers.

How much time will I need to give?

We estimate that you'll probably want to give about one hour each week although this is flexible and will vary from month to month. You will be able to discuss with your Regional Manager (a Tearfund staff member) the amount of time that you feel able to give.

We ask that you initially take on this assignment for three years. This can be extended after discussion with your Area Volunteer Co-ordinator.

What do I need to do the role?

  • A commitment to Tearfund’s Basis of Faith, mission and values
  • Some experience of supporting a team
  • An understanding of your local area and churches
  • Good communication skills
  • Access to email and the internet (not essential but very useful)

How will you support me?

We will give you one-to-one support, guidance and feedback. We'll provide information to get you started, a regular newsletter full of practical tips, guidelines on how best to support volunteers, training opportunities and access to a special area of the volunteer zone on this website.

How will I benefit?

  • You'll have the satisfaction of making a vital difference to poor people around the world
  • You'll become part of the worldwide Tearfund family
  • We will reimburse any reasonable expenses (e.g. postage, telephone calls, travel) that you incur as a result of your volunteer role
  • You’ll be the first to know about new Tearfund resources and information
