News from our region

Tony Campolo at Newcastle University

Tearfund campaigns promoter, David Golding, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Newcastle University for services to Make Poverty History. David writes...

`Professor Tony Campolo, the renowned American evangelical sociologist and social reformer, gave a characteristically thunderous performance at a lunchtime lecture at Newcastle University on Friday 8 June.

Tony pointed out that the propagation of the endless acquisition of `stuff' is not only killing our fellow human beings in poor countries, but killing us as people here too. He also pointed out that there is a better way - one that expresses the values of the Kingdom of God.

Newcastle is a world leader among universities in the struggle against global poverty. The event was chaired by Martin Callanan MEP, one of Make Poverty History NE's Patrons.

Tearfund Speaker and Media volunteers

Do you sometimes feel short of ideas and expertise?

Our North East team grew considerably in 2006 and many of our volunteers have skills that could help you reach your church and community more effectively.

Our speaker and media volunteers are ready and waiting for opportunities to speak in churches, do media reports etc.

Please contact the regional office if you would like to make use of their media and speaking skills.
