IMPACT:  Integral Mission - Poverty Action - Community Transformation
In 1996, as part of our global effort to tackle poverty, Tearfund began to actively address disadvantage in the UK, realising that thousands of people on our own doorstep were living in desperate need. Poverty in the UK is not just physical: there is great poverty of relationships and identity too. Family and community breakdown, isolation, loneliness, depression, addiction, debt and abuse across the UK have left many broken, vulnerable and lacking in hope.

As with all of Tearfund’s work, we believe that the answers to this poverty lie in the hands of local churches that are filled with Christians passionate about seeing God’s Kingdom come on earth. The IMPACT UK Team at Tearfund partners with church projects and Christian organisations to address these issues of poverty and disadvantage in some of the poorest areas of the UK.

We support our partners for up to three years with a combination of prayer, ‘Church in Community’ advisory support, grants, one-to one strategy development and organisational development support, peer learning, networking and training events, as well as one-to one mentoring for project leaders and CEOs. This helps to increase projects’ and organisations’ effectiveness, enabling spiritual passion and professional excellence to thrive and ensuring work is strategic and sustainable.  This also means that work with beneficiaries is highly effective in helping them to find their own path to a restored and flourishing life, full of renewed hope and free from poverty in all its forms.

The IMPACT UK Team is privileged to work with its partners and to play its part in the Tearfund ten-year vision to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty.

We're engaged in a network of relationships, equipping and inspiring churches to get involved in their communities:

In 2015, thousands of refugees and migrants travelled through Greece escaping troubles in their home countries. In 2016, all borders in Greece closed, resulting in these people being 'stuck' in the country. We are supporting local partners to give assistance to the most vulnerable of these.

Ten keys to community transformation

We've produced a series of films to offer inspiration and guidance for your community project.  Drawing on 15 years of experience of working at a grass-roots level in UK communities, we’ve compiled 10 keys to help you unlock the potential of your project.
