Spend one incredible month in Cambodia with our Tearfund partner, the Cambodian Hope Organisation (CHO).

You’ll be based in Poipet, an area located on the Thai-Cambodian border, well known for trafficking and gambling.

CHO believe they have been called by God to bring hope to the local community and facilitate sustainable change. They are busy building a network of strong, hope-filled communities where people’s physical, spiritual and psychological needs are met.

All the projects they run are geared towards equipping the local church to strengthen the quality of life of disadvantaged rural people. They encourage families to become self-reliant through income generating projects.

When families can generate their own income, they are less vulnerable to trafficking and labour exploitation because they have adequate resources to provide themselves with food, shelter, clothing and education for their children. This makes them less likely to buy into false promises of jobs or a better life from traffickers which lead to situations of exploitation.

The work of CHO is incredibly inspiring as they help the local church to equip their own community to lift themselves out of poverty.

‘The impact CHO are having feels refreshingly immediate as I visited projects, finding nothing but joy, which had risen from unimaginable suffering. From creating jobs in Destiny café and providing education at the stunning Safe Haven School within the city, to assisting farmers, running anti-trafficking workshops and Church and community led transformation in the surrounding villages.’ - Hudson, CHO volunteer

Watch this video to find out more about the work CHO is doing:

So, are you ready?

A month in Cambodia will both challenge you personally and stretch your faith. You will experience how the local church is at the heart of tackling poverty and injustice and have the chance to show God’s love in practical ways as you visit and learn from inspirational communities.

‘I learnt that it isn’t me transforming Poipet. It’s God and it always has been God. He doesn’t need me to be excellent at my job. Neither does he expect me to have perfect plans. He needs me to be available. He needs me to surrender to him and let him unfold his plan.' Louise, CHO volunteer

Life changing! It was so amazing to see a community being changed by such an inspiring and God centred group of people. They are changing so many lives and have such a passion to see God’s kingdom come to Cambodia.

Such an incredible experience! It’s only having visited Christians abroad that the idea of us as a global church family has hit home - they’re our family!! Great to be able to support and partner with them in all the fantastic projects that they do.
