Join in with the work of Tearfund in Zambia and spend two weeks living and learning alongside our partner, the Jubilee Centre.

The Jubilee Centre is all about training up local leaders to be powerful change makers in their communities. This includes working with leaders of local churches and Christian organisations to support some of the most vulnerable in society, particularly those living with HIV and dying of AIDS related illnesses.

The 3rd Global Goal for Sustainable Development (SDG’s) has an incredible target to see the AIDS epidemic wiped out by 2030. Tearfund is working with Jubilee Centre to engage the church in supporting people living with HIV. They support local churches to provide volunteer Caregivers for people living with HIV in their homes and train peer-educators to run HIV prevention workshops with local young people.

So, are you ready?

Two weeks in Zambia will both challenge you personally and stretch your faith. You will experience how the local church is at the heart of tackling poverty and injustice and have the chance to show God’s love in practical ways as you visit and learn from inspirational communities.

Who are we looking for?

Individuals who are flexible and adaptable and would love the chance to spend two weeks living in Zambia, working in a team, alongside other volunteers and staff.

What will you be doing?

  • Spending time building relationships with individuals receiving treatment at a local HIV centre.
  • Working with youth and young adults through self-discovery workshops
  • Supporting the Child Feeding Programme
  • Visiting and praying with vulnerable adults
  • Teaching and leading activities at local schools
  • Engaging and working with the local church and community

WOW! What an inspiring, humbling, exciting and incredibly varied experience. I have come away with an excellent overview of the outstanding work of JCM, spending lots of time with the JCM outreach workers on the bus journeys, visiting Self Help Groups. It was a real honour.

We spent three days in Kabwe, visiting three Transit schools in the villages surrounding the city. In each school we did an activity that would benefit the children for the first term back in September; from knitting graduation scarves to drawing up posters for displays.
