Go MAD in Zanzibar

Go MAD is offering the opportunity to serve the Anglican diocese on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar.  The diocese focuses on outreach and ministering within a heavy Muslim society, and Go MAD has recently got involved in assisting them with some of their practical requirements and helping them broaden the scope of their work.

Volunteers will be taking part in the following activities:

  • building toilets for church communities
  • renovating 5 shop blocks and café for the mother's union
  • working and playing with the children in the diocese's schools and nurseries
  • getting involved with the diocese home-care HIV/AIDS project

There are a variety of leisure activities to be enjoyed during weekends off, including snorkeling around the island's coral reef and exploring the many miles of beautiful white sand.

Accommodation will be provided at the Anglican diocese's Hostel St Monica's, next to Christ Church Cathedral, which stands on the location of the former slave market of Zanzibar.  The diocese compound is on the eastern side of Stonetown within short walking distance of the main market.
