Thailand Siam Care

Map of Thailand

The work of Siam Care Foundation (SC) was one of the first home-based care projects in Bangkok: the work started in 1991 at the behest of the Royal Thai Government. Siam Care is a Christian organisation that seeks to live out its values and care deeply for those who are vulnerable and living with the impact of HIV. Since 1991 the work has expanded considerably, and registered as a local Thai foundation. Currently, Siam Care has offices and projects in Bangkok, Mukdahan (Northeast Thailand), and Phang Nga (South Thailand).

The programme’s main aim is to help HIV affected families. SC’s approach is holistic, providing emotional, physical, educational, and spiritual support. This care approach is adopted to improve the health and wellbeing of beneficiaries and facilitate integration of HIV affected families into their communities. A significant proportion of this work involves home care initiatives, providing care for whole families within their domestic environments and teaching health care to enable self-support.  In Bangkok a shelter is in operation that provides temporary accommodation for those in need. Additionally, SC run child and family sponsorship programmes to provide grants for education and family support.

Whilst at Siam Care, you will be involved in helping in many different areas of the foundation’s work. Siam Care places a lot of emphasis on visiting families, so the team would participate in home visits. The team would also get the opportunity to be part of the ministry that Siam Care offers in prisons. Time will also be spent in youth work, teaching English to school students and sponsor children, helping with administrative tasks in the SC office, and participating in times of music and fellowship. Time will be spent in Bangkok and in a rural programme, either Phang Nar or Mukdahan.
