Scripture Union started in Zambia in the 1960s with British missionaries. It has since won government legislative status as a non-profit making Christian Organisation.
Scripture Union runs Christian groups in schools, camps, rallies, marriage enrichment seminars, positive parenting sessions, literature distribution, youth and children counselling and produces Bible study materials.
In the past, SU was concerned with only the spiritual aspect of the young people. Today there are enormous socio-economic problems facing children and young people that call for a holistic approach by SU in its ministry. Because of this, a Life Skills for Behaviour Change programme was developed to help meet these needs. This includes teaching relating to HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, early marriage, orphans, street children, and vulnerable children.
