Through Journey, the Salvation Army International Development UK facilitates engaging experiences for people in the UK and other developed nations to encounter the people, culture, issues and needs of developing communities. Travelling with JOURNEY is a holistic experience, immersing you in local communities, helping you to understand the realities of life in the developing world, equipping you to advocate for those living with poverty and injustice.
JOURNEY Encounter trips take small teams to visit developing countries for 10-14 days. In this time you'll experience a range of development issues such as healthcare, food security, and water and sanitation, and have the opportunity to get involved in community development projects. These may include agricultural projects, mobile health clinics, or work with orphans and vulnerable children. You'll also have the chance to participate in some excursions. Encounter is for anyone with a desire to learn from others and experience new challenges. It is an all-age experience, but under-16s require a guardian.
