Tearfund: One Voice 2012
24 hours of worship and prayer for justice
In the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18, Jesus tells us that God will give justice quickly to his elect who cry out to him day and night. There is something about that continual cry, that round the clock perseverance, which moves the heart of God and shows him that we mean business.
At Tearfund our vision is to see people released from material and spiritual poverty, and that isn’t going to happen without prayer. It’s the lifeblood of all that we do. Prayer for justice super-charges our acts of justice, as God takes our five loaves and two fish and multiplies them that many may be fed.
Driven by a desire to see Scotland praying for justice, the Tearfund Scotland team ran 24 hours of worship and prayer in Queen’s Park Baptist Church, Glasgow, in February. Teams from 14 different churches from across the denominations led hour long sessions of worship and prayer, including St Paul’s and St George’s Edinburgh, Stirling Baptist, Whiteinch Church of Scotland and The Gate International in Dundee. We also had several sessions run by Glasgow House of Prayer.
Prayer themes ranged from human trafficking to disasters, corruption to HIV, all the time focusing on God raising up his people to be the answer, both in our prayers and our actions. The prayer was rooted in worship to enable us to focus on our victorious God rather than being overwhelmed by the needs of our world.
Many friends joined us at the event, including Fred Drummond, Head of the Evangelical Alliance in Scotland, who led a session praying for Cambodia with worship leaders Allan McKinlay and Yvonne Lyon.
24-7 Prayer Scotland set up a large prayer room in the basement, with interactive prayer stations that allowed people to connect with God over issues such as how our choices about food and clothes impacts people in poverty.
Ruth Weller from Re:Hope Church in Glasgow, who led a session on water and sanitation commented, “ We were so blessed to be a part of the event. The merging of worship and intercession is something that we're exploring with God just now, so it was great to join with the rest of Scotland in crying out for social justice in that way.”
One Voice 2012 : 24-Hours, Exalting Jesus, Praying for Justice
We would like to thank all those that made it along to our One Voice Prayer and Worship event at Queen's Park Baptist.
The response was fantastic, there were approximately 400 people who came from churches across Scotland to join together in prayer and worship - led by 15 different worship teams, with 260+ people taking time to use our 24-7 Scotland prayer room.
We were so encouraged by the turn out and by the feedback we have received from those that attended. We are delighted that so many people were able to engage in worship and pray for issues and countries that had long been on their heart, as well as learn about how God is bringing transformation to individuals and communities around the world, through the local church.
Thank you once again for joining with us as we gathered together to exalt the name of Jesus and to ask Him to bring His justice and mercy to our needy world.
'And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.'
Micah 6:8

One Voice 2012: 24-Hours, exalting Jesus, praying for justice
"We pray because we have to. Because we're desperate for God - to walk with Him...in step with His will for the world."
God is raising up an army of worshippers with a passion for prayer and a longing to see justice released in the poorest parts of the world.
In partnership with Glasgow House Of Prayer (GHOP) and 24-7 Prayer Scotland, we are delighted to invite you to, One Voice 2012: 24-hours, exalting Jesus, praying for justice.
Come and unite with hundreds of Christians across Scotland at this dynamic 24hr prayer and worship event, as we gather together with One Voice in worship, prayer and praise.
Round the clock worship, celebration, intercession and reflection will be led by GHOP and worship teams from different churches in Scotland. A justice prayer room will be run concurrently by 24-7 Prayer Scotland, so there will be a style to suit all! We will also have a cafe and chill-out area to keep you refreshed (and awake!). We'll be launching the event on Friday 24th February. Come for as much or as little as you want.
This event will run in the lead up to Tearfund Scotland's One Voice week of prayer, which takes place from 26 February to 4th March.
