Meet Evelyn

Ten-year-old Evelyn has a dream. She wants to become a nurse when she’s older, and build a clinic for her mountain village of El Tambo. She enjoys going to school and she’s keen to learn.

But such dreams can seem impossible when you look at Evelyn’s world: malnutrition, inadequate rural education, family breakdown.

Which is why Tearfund’s partner Warmis is such a key part of Evelyn’s life. With their support, Evelyn – and her entire family – may well escape the grip of poverty.

What's happening - how our partners are helping

Warmis run sewing and literacy classes to help women, like Evelyn’s mum and grandma, increase their earnings and have a better quality of life – so Evelyn can eat better food and do well at school.

Warmis also run a weekly children club, so Evelyn and her friends can learn about the Bible, sing songs, play games, and receive extra tuition.

In the long term, Warmis’ aim is to hand all this work over to the local church – so they can reach out practically, as well as spiritually, to help children, like Evelyn.

The future

So much of Evelyn’s story is yet unwritten. She’s just about to start secondary school. But, as we journey with Evelyn in the coming years, we pray that we will see God work through his church to enable her to reach her full potential. Will you join us on this adventure?
