‘I don’t want Alicia to have the same life as me. I want the best for her.’
Peruvian mother Nelida is driven by the hope that her daughter Alicia will escape the grip of poverty which has limited their lives so far.
By giving regularly you can help people like Nelida to have hope for the future.
Living high up in the Andes mountains, rural schooling is basic and living off the land is precarious, with years of drought affecting crops. Nelida’s dreams for Alicia could be just wishful thinking. But transformation is under way.
In Nelida’s village, Tearfund partner Warmis is helping women like her get the skills they need to provide for their children. Reflecting, Nelida says, ‘I could only put my first name, my last name and a few words. But Warmis has taught me to read newspapers. I understand more, and now I can add, subtract and multiply.’
For her daughter Alicia, this is life-changing. ‘Now I’m teaching my little girl. I don’t want Alicia to have the same life as me. I want the best for her. This is why I do all I can to earn enough so my daughter can go to school and study and better herself.’
Nelida’s love and determination joined with your support may change her daughter’s life.
