As poverty continues to mark out the great divisions across the world, we invite you to join us for a unique one-day conference where we will explore the possibilities and potential found within the local church for responding to local and global poverty.

Leading the day will be two church leaders with international influence: South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Lynne Hybels, co-founder of Willow Creek Community Church, USA.

With a special focus on HIV, the event will equip church leaders with the tools they need to help their churches engage and respond to global and local poverty.

Tearfund and Jesus House for all Nations are proud to work in partnership for this event. Admission is free, and there will be a finger buffet provided at the end.

NB: Please ensure you register each person individually. There is no facility for joint bookings.

The speakers

Archbishop Desmond Tutu was ordained in 1960 and in 1979 became the General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches where he pushed for non-violent change and economic sanctions against South Africa. He was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1984 and in 1986 became the Archbishop of Cape Town. His policy of forgiveness and reconciliation is an internationally recognised example of conflict resolution.

Lynne Hybels grew up in Michigan and married Bill in 1974. Together they started the Willow Creek Community Church. Lynne is the author of Nice girls don’t change the world and more recently has developed, with Willow Creek, a church and small group DVD guide Hope and action to address the HIV pandemic.
