Roses are red, violets are blue, take climate action to show your love too!
We have taken huge steps forward over the last ten years to tackle climate change but, as always, there is more we can do. That’s why we’re asking you to join with thousands of people around the UK as part of The Climate Coalition’s Show The Love campaign, in sending a green heart card to your local MP and asking them to take action on climate change.
You have the power to show the love for the places, people and life you want to protect from climate change. Whether you have a couple of minutes, an afternoon or all the time in the world, here are four steps to getting involved this February:
Step 1: Get creative and make a green heart out of fabric or paper to send along with a letter or card – or draw a green heart on a plain card.
Step 2: Write a personal message to your MP in the card about why you think tackling climate change and providing people in poverty with local clean energy is important.
Step 3: Then, in the card, ask your MP to write to Harriett Baldwin MP, Minister of State for International Development, asking the government to use the UK's influence at the World Bank to invest more money in off-grid renewable energy that best helps some of the world’s poorest people.
If you're stuck, you could use the following text, but your own message will have more impact:
Dear xxx MP,
I am sending you a green heart to show the love I have for the people and places I want to protect from climate change. One way to do this is to provide access to local, clean energy. Please will you ask Harriett Baldwin to use the UK's influence at the World Bank to invest in off-grid renewable energy that best helps people in poverty. There's a template you can use here.
You can find the letter for MPs to send to Harriett Baldwin by writing this link www.tinyurl.com/greenheartsletter in your card.
Step 4: Pop your card in the post, then put your feet up and enjoy a cuppa knowing you’ve just called for justice. You can write to your MP at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA. If you are not sure who your MP is you can out who they are at parliament.uk
If you’re really keen, you could always share a photo on social media of you posting your card with #ValentinesDay #ShowTheLove @TearfundAct
