Cycle for freedom 2019

There's power in those pedals

Every 30 seconds, a child is trafficked – childhood comes to an abrupt end.

Join us as we saddle up for an epic ride and raise funds to help protect children at risk of trafficking, disease and disaster.

Father of three and international rugby star, Ruan Pienaar, is passionate about playing his part to protect the world’s most vulnerable. Determined to help 2,500 children at risk, he started an amazing cycle event in 2017. His vision – 90km to raise £90,000.

So far, the Cycle for Freedom has raised £36,000, which could help to protect 1,000 children. Join us this year, as we follow in Ruan’s tracks and continue to chase down his target.

Saturday 28 September

You will begin the Cycle for Freedom at Portstewart Baptist Church. From there, you take in breathtaking coastal beauty as you head towards the Glens of Antrim, and finish your 90km ride through the countryside as you return to Portstewart. Or, if that sounds daunting, you can choose a shorter 50km route.

Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, an active two-wheel commuter or a relatively new pedal-pusher, there’s a place for you.

Cycle for children at Risk

Millions of children worldwide grow up trapped in poverty, fear or despair, their lives stunted by abuse, war, HIV, homelessness or the loss of their parents.

Our Children at Risk programme works through local church partners and networks of Christians to bring Christ's love to the world's most marginalised children. We work to prevent the problems that cause children to suffer, as well as advocating both locally and nationally for children’s rights.

All our activities aim to involve children in the decisions that affect their lives, empowering them to make their own choices for the future.

Every £36 raised could help protect one child from trafficking, disease or disaster.

So sign-up to put your efforts behind the cause and enjoy a great day.

What you’ll receive from Tearfund:

  • Refreshments at two stop-off points
  • A warm Tearfund reception (and burger!) at the finish-line
  • Dedicated fundraising support if you choose to fundraise
