Day 5 – Competition: what does Christmas look like in your neighbourhood?

Advent competition

Be in the competition!*

‘In his name the nations will put their hope.’ (Matthew 12:21)

Over the next couple of weeks, you’ll be hearing from neighbours in nations near and far – including stories of the ways they celebrate the joy and hope of Christmas.

Whether it’s a midnight carol service by candlelight, or baking something special, the ways we mark this celebration occasion that unites all Christians are many and varied.

Maybe you grew up somewhere where an angel dropped gifts under the tree while your family shared a meal on Christmas Eve – as is the case for some in Germany?

Perhaps your memories of celebrating Jesus’ birth are saturated in Southern Hemisphere sunshine and the smell of turkey on a barbeque?

Or it might even be that this is your first Christmas as a Christian, meaning the day has taken on a new significance and this year will be the start of a new kind of hopeful celebration for you?

Please share with us what makes Christmas special for you!

Join the neighbourhood. Create an Instagram feed post or send us an email to tell us your story or scripture.

Your entry can be serious, or light. Happy or profound. Heart-warming or hilarious.

If you’re using Instagram, you can tag us @tearfund using #TearfundAdventNeighbourhood, or you could email us at Competition closes on 17 December 2021.

As a thank you for taking the time to tell us your story, we’ll enter you into a draw to win a signed copy of Tearfund’s own Ruth Valerio’s book, Planet Protectors. It’s a lively, family-friendly read, offering 52 fantastic ideas for looking after the world. We think it’ll be loved by both the young and the young-at-heart.

We look forward to hearing from you!
