What is happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)?
Decades of violent conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have resulted in an urgent humanitarian crisis. Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes to escape the violence, and are living in temporary camps.
In an already desperate situation, recent fighting in the city of Goma means families who are still traumatised from losing their homes are being forced to flee once again.
- Since the start of January, hundreds of thousands of people in the DRC have fled their homes.
- An estimated 3,000 people have been killed and 2,800 injured in recent fighting in and around Goma.
- People in Goma spent a number of days without electricity, water or internet access.
- Essential services such as healthcare facilities, schools and markets have been attacked, and banks have closed down. Hospitals are struggling to cope.
People who have already lost so much are fearing for their lives. You can show them God’s love by responding to this urgent crisis.
