'Dear Barrie, even though in recent years you were not well, I am grateful to God that we could still enjoy crosswords and laughter about old stories and a shared love of detective stories. I am grateful that we were able to go on that final trip to the lakes together and to the last drop. It was so sad to see you fade in hospital but I was glad to have that chat with you a few days before you passed and to hold your hand and pray. the Lord is your shepherd and I trust that you are more alive than ever before.'
