'Varna and Richard were happily married for 71 years. They were wonderful parents to Marilyn, Jenny and Nigel, welcoming in-laws, and dearly loved grandparents and great grandparents. They were committed and hard working members of St Michael and All Angels Church, Bishopston, Bristol for 60 years. They supported Tearfund throughout their lives and loved the work of the organisation. Varna was a generous leader and friend, engaging warmly with all age groups. Richard was a humble gentleman whose Christian faith was seen in his constant concern for others ahead of himself. They are much missed by all who knew them.'
