Rachael, 25, has three young children to feed. But failed harvests caused by drought in the Karamoja region, northern Uganda, where Rachael lives, means she has to desperately search for leaves to feed her family. She said they kept crying for food.
‘It has taken us now three days surviving on only drinking water and sometimes this wild plant.’
‘The drought has not yet even reached its peak,' she said, picking leaves from one of the few wild plants remaining. Nonetheless, Rachael's husband, Lometo, has prepared their kitchen garden in the hope that the rains would return.
