Tearfund is praying for you and all our supporters during this time of great uncertainty. You mean so much to us and we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support.
As you would expect, Tearfund is working as quickly as possible to assess how coronavirus is affecting the world’s most vulnerable communities and how we can best support our partners and churches to make a meaningful, sustained response.
As always, we are spending time in prayer, asking for God’s protection and his wisdom to deal with this unprecedented global situation. We would greatly value your prayers in the weeks and months ahead.
Your support is needed now more than ever. Please give today to support our work during the coronavirus pandemic.
We have a faithful God who cares
It’s understandable that many of us feel anxious during times like this. At the time of writing more than 200,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus globally. We’ve all heard or read frightening estimates of the number of people who could die; and naturally, we are all concerned for our loved ones.
‘Do not fear, for I am with you.’
It is important to remember we have a God who loves and cares for us. He has told us, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you’ (Isaiah 41:10). We can have courage when faced with the fear of the unknown, because we trust in an all-knowing God who has promised to be with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9).
At a recent Tearfund Prayer Day, we received a prophetic word about the ship that leaves a safe harbour to go out into rough waters, with the promise that our Lord will be with us. This feels very real as I write to you today. And it is a huge encouragement to me personally to have the reassurance that Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.
Caring for the most vulnerable
In these uncertain times, I can assure you that Tearfund's work will continue through our amazing network of courageous, caring Christian partners and churches around the world.
I am daring to dream that this could be the opportunity in our generation for the church to be known globally for its brave and compassionate response, putting the needs of others before our own, just as Jesus did. We know this is possible. We see acts of heroic love every day in the countries where we work.
Just the other day, I was in touch with a colleague who has been visiting our projects in Ethiopia. They told me, ‘We are seeing that the poor and most vulnerable people have new-found hope as the church has reached out to their neighbours. The amazing transformation that is taking place in communities because churches are being a catalyst for change astounds me!’
‘In these uncertain times, I can assure you that Tearfund's work will continue through our amazing network of courageous, caring Christian partners and churches around the world.’
We are doing all we can to make sure we can continue to follow Jesus where the need is greatest, bringing practical help and powerful hope to the most vulnerable people, just as we have been doing for over 50 years. This is only possible because of the prayers and gifts of people like you.
In the coming months, we may need to ask you again to dig deep to enable us to continue meeting the needs of the world’s poorest communities. I can assure you we will only do this when it is genuinely necessary. Myself and my whole team at Tearfund will be digging deep into our own reserves of time, energy and resources to enable our vital work to continue.
Caring for ourselves and our neighbours
At Tearfund, we encourage you to love others by taking wise steps to prevent the coronavirus from spreading. Many of us will need to self-isolate at some point. Please know we are praying that you will know God’s presence with you. We are looking at producing some resources to encourage people who can’t get to church, and to support church leaders. Please keep an eye on our website for updates in the coming weeks.
‘Please know we are praying that you will know God’s presence with you.’
If you are able to support others around you, we hope you’ll join us in looking out for our neighbours: those who live nearby as well as our global neighbours living in the places of greatest need.
This is an unprecedented situation. Please also donate today if you can, to support our work during the coronavirus pandemic.
Let me close by reminding you that we are here for you. If you wish to talk, or would like someone to pray with you, please feel free to call us on 020 3906 3906 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
God Bless you and your loved ones,
