Volcano in Guatemala

Disaster response and recoveryGuatemala

The death toll from Sunday’s (3 June) Fuego volcano eruption near Guatemala City has risen to 99.

Hundreds more are missing, and a further 3,200 people have been evacuated with homes and crops destroyed. There is also a risk that water sources will have been contaminated.

Tearfund has been working in Guatemala since 1976 through local partner organisations, and our contacts in the areas affected are planning their response.

They have asked for us to pray for those who survived the eruption. Losing their homes and livelihoods will be a tremendous setback and could push some people further into poverty.

  • Please pray for all those people who have lost loved ones in the eruption, that they would find comfort and hope from God.
  • Ask God to help those involved in the immediate response to the disaster.
  • Pray for the long term recovery of communities following the eruption. That they would be able to rebuild and restore what was lost.

Please donate to support our work in Guatemala.
