Where is Thailand?

Thailand is a country in South East Asia, bordering Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia

Our impact

Overview

Poverty rates in Thailand have seen a dramatic decline over the past 30 years – from 65.2 per cent in 1988 to 9.85 per cent in 2018, according to national data. This made Thailand one of the greatest development success stories. However, recent challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic, threaten to reverse this progress. Inequality between the urban rich and rural poor remains one of the biggest challenges.

Our work in Thailand

In Thailand, we are focused on supporting faith-based institutions and local churches to respond to the needs of their communities. Church leaders are encouraged to lead development projects in their communities by making use of local resources, caring for creation, and addressing the needs of the most vulnerable.

Local churches in Thailand are also best placed to respond during emergencies, including to community needs across borders in Myanmar and Laos. By working alongside faith-based organisations, local churches and youth groups, we can continue to be part of God’s plan to end poverty.

Please pray for Thailand

    • Pray for the strengthening of partnerships between Tearfund and local churches and other organisations so that we can continue to respond quickly to disasters and emergencies.
    • Pray that passionate young people will be resourced to lead new initiatives to help themselves, their families and their communities rise out of poverty.
    • Pray for more churches to be equipped to lead transformation and community development in their neighbourhoods.
