Volunteer in Malawi this summer and spend one month supporting Tearfund’s partner, Eagles, in their effort to improve food security and reduce poverty in local communities.

Since 2002, Eagles have been working with local churches, to equip them to meet the needs of their own communities and help themselves out of poverty.

The work is transformational. Many families have been positively impacted by the work and many more continue to be. It’s all about tackling poverty by mobilising churches and local communities to take action using their own resources.

In Nsaru, Central Malawi, five villages were completely dependent on the crops they grew and needed a way to generate some income. Eagles helped the community to prioritise their problems and come up with a way to tackle them themselves.

After receiving training from Eagles, each community set up a Village Savings and Loans Association. Now the women meet each week to put in their small savings and after a month, they can take a loan to start or improve a small business such as selling vegetables. The idea has caught on and now other communities are forming groups and asking Eagles for training.

This is an amazing opportunity to live and learn alongside the staff.

I experienced an amazing country with truly incredible people who are not limited by their material poorness but are genuinely welcoming and generous to all. It was definitely the start of something through which I hope to return the favour to those who have taught me so much.

Very blessed to have the opportunity to visit and work in such a beautiful and spiritually rich country - great support from the SU staff and a great time to see God working in another country.

We were given the most wonderfful welcome at Wellspring and Tororo. I enjoyed every moment of our visit and it was an experience I will never forget.
