Merseyside churches and businesses announce programme of events to raise money and awareness for Tearfund

18 Sep 2018

Churches and businesses in Merseyside will be hosting a series of events in October to support the work of the Christian relief and development organisation Tearfund.

The events will take place between 14th and 28th October, hosted by churches around the Merseyside region. The full programme can be viewed here, highlights include:

  • An evening of cooking and conversation about work and faith with Martha Collison the youngest ever contestant of The Great British Bake Off and Will Torrent award-winning chocolatier and patissier
  • Comedy and curry night with critically acclaimed comedian Andy Kind, featured on BBC1, ITV, and Channel 4
  • Well-loved musical numbers performed by 'West End Has Faith' as part of their UK-wide tour

Throughout the two weeks Tearfund speakers will also be visiting a number of churches across Merseyside to share more about Tearfund's work overseas. The programme of events will culminate with a special celebration service at Liverpool Cathedral, with guest speaker, Pastor Stuart Bell from Alive Church Lincoln, and worship from Liverpudlian, Ian Yates.

Some of the area's best businesses and vendors are supporting the events by offering exclusive discounts to attendees. Businesses involved include LIV Food Market, Share Earth and Rennies Arts and Crafts.

Virginia Luckett, Director of UK Churches at Tearfund said: "Across two exciting weeks in October, churches will be hosting a number of events to support Tearfund's work. From curry and comedy, amazing performances of West End hits, as well as fun days and more. We look forward to joining with churches across Merseyside that all share and support Tearfund's mission to end extreme poverty."
