The church is an agent of change. But unlike other organisations, the church can create long-lasting transformation at every level of community: material and emotional, social and spiritual. This week and next, pray that the church in Nepal will empower people to free themselves from financial poverty and help them to thrive in every area of their lives.

Loving God, we consecrate this coming week. We set it aside for you. Bring our attention, our thoughts and our feelings during this time of prayer to the people of Nepal. Thank you for all the work you have done and are doing in this nation. Thank you for the plans you have for its people. May we, through our prayers this week, join in with those plans. Amen.
Monday 13 November
Like many young Nepalis, Markush – who helps lead his local church – almost left his community because of a lack of income opportunities. However, after receiving Bible-based training from a Tearfund partner, he was inspired to start his own goat farm and is now mentoring other young people. Ask God to grant more people like him the resources and knowledge needed to become agents of change in their community.
Tuesday 14 November
Markush lives in a rural village – where there is often little support for communities. Pray that more churches, like Markush’s, can be equipped to bring transformation in these remote areas, offering hope and opportunity. Ask God to bless them with everything they need to effectively minister to their congregations and impact the lives of those around them.
Wednesday 15 November
Pastor Dawa is a passionate church leader, but this would lead to him spending little time with his family. The training of our local partners is holistic – focusing on every area of life. After receiving training, Dawa began to invest more time in his loved ones. ‘This step has brought my family closer together,’ he says. Pray that his example encourages others to be at the heart of their families.
Thursday 16 November
Let us pray for church leaders like Markush and Dawa, who are seeking to actively engage in their communities and work to meet the needs of the most vulnerable. Ask God to grant them strength and wisdom, and continue to inspire them to create change in their communities, bringing hope and healing to those in need.
Friday 17 November
Pray today for the expansion of these Bible-based community training programmes in Nepal, which empower church leaders and community members to work together to eliminate poverty. Ask God to bless the efforts of our local partners and help them build healthy relationships that bring transformation to their communities.
Saturday 18 November
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, Manisha and her family – like so many others – lost their source of income. Her husband’s shop had to close. But with financial support and business training from Tearfund’s partner, Manisha was able to start up her own business from home. Pray that more people like Manisha will be given what they need to take their futures into their own hands.
