In many countries where Tearfund serves, Christians and other minority groups can face challenges living out their faith. This week, we lift up churches in Colombia, Mali, Burkina Faso and Pakistan, and ask God to help Christians be peacemakers in their communities.

Sunday 19 May

‘The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.’ (Psalm 37:40)
Lord, we lift up all those across the world who face challenges living out their faith. We ask that you give them strength, wisdom and endurance, and that their lives will be a testimony to everyone around them. Amen.

Monday 20 May

Every day, Venezuelan migrants decide to flee their country due to its socio-political crisis. After facing many risks in their journey to cross the border to Colombia and other countries, they strive, against all odds, to build a better life for themselves and their families. Pray for the church in Colombia, for wisdom as it opens its doors to welcome, protect and help integrate them into the communities.

Tuesday 21 May

People living in northern Mali and other areas where extremist groups are active are at risk of violence. Pray for Tearfund staff as they work tirelessly to promote peace and reconciliation. Lift up all those who face the threat of violence.

Wednesday 22 May

Violent groups have great influence in Burkina Faso, especially in the east of the country. The situation for Christians is deteriorating as extremist influence continues to spread. Pray for churches in areas under terrorist control, that Christians can bring communities together.

Thursday 23 May

Last August, an angry mob of around 600 people burnt or vandalised 31 churches (including nine home-based churches) and more than 500 Christian houses in Jaranwala, Faisalabad, Pakistan. The houses of several pastors were destroyed and hundreds of Bibles were set on fire. Pray for families still rebuilding and recovering their lives after the attacks.

Friday 24 May

Tearfund responded rapidly and was among the first to reach the impacted communities, helping those in need and organising prayer gatherings for peace. Pray today for protection for churches and our staff and partners around the world facing challenges as they seek to work in their communities.

Saturday 25 May

Join in this prayer for peace today, adapted from the words of Saint Francis of Assisi: Lord, make us instruments of your peace: where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. Amen.
