The Central African Republic's (CAR) Ouaka region, including its capital Bambari and surrounding villages, has been ravaged by violence in recent years. The latest surge of fighting between armed groups erupted after the December 2020 presidential election, pushing the country to breaking point. This week, pray for the many families forced to flee for their safety.

Sunday 20 October

Djara, aged 35, her husband and children left their home and possessions behind to escape the conflict. ‘It took a month and a half to get here. We had to walk all the way. Sometimes my husband carried the children,’ she says. Pray that God will heal the family from that traumatic time, particularly the children.

Monday 21 October

Djara and her family now live in Yakuta, a peaceful village. Without a regular income, the couple look for farming work daily. ‘If there are no jobs, there’s no food. So we go to sleep hungry,’ she says. Pray for the many families in CAR facing hunger, that they would get help.

Tuesday 22 October

‘Tearfund has supported us, they gave us food including sugar, oil and rice,’ Djara says. ‘And some money.’ Give thanks for this support that Tearfund was able to offer and pray that we, our partners and local church connections will reach families in greatest need, like Djara’s.

Wednesday 23 October

Join in prayer with Pastor Ngoumba Save Pierre from Bambari, which was held by rebels from December 2020 to February 2021: ‘I pray that the Lord will provide the necessary resources so that Tearfund will increase their work helping families here. I pray that the people who face difficulties will one day be able to take care of themselves.’

Thursday 24 October

Adama Ramadan, aged 50, fled her home and now lives in Yakuta. She lost her husband in the conflict and takes care of her children and grandchildren. Join with her prayer today: ‘Every day I pray to God for strength and good health so that I can take care of my family. Please pray for my family and my children... may they have a better future.’

Friday 25 October

‘I want to grow up and take care of my grandma,’ says Ahamatou, one of Adama’s grandchildren. ‘I want to go to school and study hard. Then my parents can relax and I can take care of them.’ Give thanks for Ahamatou’s determination and courage and ask that God will give him the desires of his heart.

Saturday 26 October

Wapi Antoinette is a 46-year-old farmer in Adoum who lives in a village where Tearfund is helping through our Transforming Communities work with her local church. Join her in prayer today: ‘I ask Almighty God to bless Tearfund, to shower them with his grace, wisdom and intelligence so they can continue to support us.’
