This week, thank God for all of the amazing people who fundraise to help lift people out of poverty across the world. Whether that’s through baking, selling, running, quizzing, cycling or shaving off their beards, it’s demonstrating the love of Jesus in action.

Sunday 3 December

Amazing fundraiser, Stephen, shaved off half his beard to illustrate the injustice of our divided world while raising money for Tearfund’s East Africa Hunger Crisis Appeal. 'I'm really not good at asking for donations for fundraising, but having only a half-beard means people ask me why.' Ask God to raise up more supporters to be inspired to fundraise in creative ways.

Monday 4 December

Praise God for our fundraisers who have supported Tearfund faithfully for many years. In 2006, our wonderful long-term fundraiser Dave Moss started the Drumlanrig Cycle Challenge in Dumfries. Now, 17 years later, the challenge is still going strong. Pray that God will continue to bless the challenge.

Tuesday 5 December

Earlier this year when two earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, Elsie, Skylar, Molly and Imogen, aged nine and ten from St Bartholomew’s Primary School, decided to run a Coronation Cake Sale at school. They raised £405, which went towards our earthquake appeal. Ask God to raise up more passionate young fundraisers like them.

Wednesday 6 December

Thank God for the sixth year of Tearfund’s Big Quiz Night, which has raised more than £1 million over five years, and for the generosity of our quiz organisers who put so much time and effort into hosting a Big Quiz. Pray that it will be another successful year with many churches from across the nation taking part once again.

Thursday 7 December

Kezzie, 76, ran the Leeds Half Marathon in May of this year, coming third in her age category and raising vital funds for the East Africa Hunger Crisis Appeal, 'I thank God that I am able to run and walk and do what I do at my age. May his name be glorified!' Give thanks for our long-term fundraisers like Kezzie, still determined to make a difference.

Friday 8 December

Pray that God will inspire more fundraisers like Beth in Dromore, County Down, who says, ‘When I was teaching, I was able to support Tearfund financially each month. Since retiring, I had to think creatively about how to use my time and resources for God’s work.’ Beth now bakes bread and sells it locally to raise funds. Ask God to inspire more people to use the skills they have.

Saturday 9 December

The Bible has many stories of people who, as an act of obedience, gave God the things that are in their hands. People like Queen Esther, who courageously used the opportunity in her hands to save her people, or the little boy who unassumingly brought a picnic to a gathering and ended up feeding 5,000 people! When it comes to serving God, following him, all we need to do is look at what is in our hands. Lord, help us to look at what is in our hands. Amen.
