Tearfund is a member of Integral Alliance: 20 Christian agencies united to alleviate suffering in places hit by disasters. By drawing together organisations from different countries, we can share resources, and work together more effectively. This week, pray for the activities and success of members of the alliance, responding to disasters and helping to release thousands of people from poverty.
Sunday 3 March
‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’ (Psalm 133:1) Alliance members work in more than 85 countries, across 34 sectors, and have a network of over 540 local partners. Give thanks for Christian unity, shining God’s light across the world, demonstrating that God’s people working together are active, caring and compassionate.
Monday 4 March
Hong Kong-based CEDAR Fund (Christian response to poverty, through Education, Development, Advocacy and Relief) and Tearfund Ireland developed a women’s empowerment project in Ethiopia. It addressed poverty and food insecurity made worse by climate change and the lack of local capacity. Give thanks that, by working together, the project proved a great success.
Tuesday 5 March
When disasters like the Turkey-Syria earthquakes happen, the alliance coordinates member organisations to respond – gathering information at critical stages. The Integral online platform enables members to share response plans and funding needs. Pray for families in Syria and Turkey still rebuilding their lives and that alliance member organisations will reach and support them.
Wednesday 6 March
Seventeen alliance members, including Tearfund partners, are responding to the Ukraine crisis. ‘While we are tired of hearing about the Ukraine crisis, we need to recall that the Ukrainians are far more tired of the suffering, injustice and death,’ says Allan Bussard, Director of the Integral Foundation based in Slovakia. Pray for the most vulnerable families in Ukraine and refugees in neighbouring countries that Integral Alliance members are supporting.
Thursday 7 March
When a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck West Java, Indonesia in November 2022, local churches came together to respond. Tearfund Netherlands facilitated the set-up of Jakomkris, a network of Indonesian churches and Christian faith-based organisations. Lift up the work of Jakomkris, which is encouraging churches in Indonesia to create disaster preparedness units. Pray that these will prevent more injuries and deaths in the future.
Friday 8 March
Currently, 12 Integral members, including Tearfund, are responding to the severe food and malnutrition crisis in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda. By coming together as Integral, members can increase coordination and secure further much-needed support for people facing hunger. Pray for experts to join forces to find long-term solutions and save future lives.
Saturday 9 March
Pray for Fiona Boshoff, Integral Alliance’s Chief Executive Officer, who works with members and the Secretariat to create and implement plans, systems and processes. This life-changing and life-saving work is a huge responsibility. Ask God to give her wisdom and determination in the face of huge global challenges, and for rest when she needs it.
